Nikon D800E
Finally got mine! One of the most anticipated camera from Nikon. 36MP, full frame (35mm) FX camera, ideal for land scape and studio photography!!!! .........well, this is of course a excellent camera, but is it that much better than my previous D7000? It's almost 3 x more expensive and much bigger body. As far as the picture quality goes, it's hard to tell if it's any better than D7000 on my computer screen. I even use my 27 inch iMac. Maybe, I can tell the difference when I make 13 x 19 inch prints on my EPSON....maybe not....Maybe, I will wait till ordering a 20 x 30 inch print to show some differences. Maybe, pros can tell. If someone put pictures taken by D7000 and D800E side by side, I don't know if I can tell the difference. Or you can tell me if there is any difference looking at my photos on this site. Go down on my blog and guess which camera I used.
So, what's so good about this camera? For me, the biggest things are the viewfinder, larger LCD, feel, construction and FX lenses. Larger viewfinder and LCD are nice to compose and review the pics. Better LCD means better feedback to take a better picture on the next attempt. Better feel and construction make photography more fun. When you are having fun, you'd take better pictures. FX lenses are the biggest thing. There are more pro quality lenses with FX lineup. Since 36 MP is so much MP and resolution, you'd need a good lens to take advantage of it. I have FX lenses anyways for my F100 so it didn't make sense for me to have both DX and FX lenses taking up a lot of space in my house. I sold all of my DX stuff to get rid of the clutter. I now own Fuji X-Pro1, so I figured I no longer needed my DX camera. Also, most of my FX lenses have 77mm filter size, so I don't have to carry too many filters with D800E. There are few weaknesses with new camera, however. First, it's heavier! Maybe, the body isn't that much different, but FX lenses are much bigger and heavier. When it's bigger and heavier, it's pain to climb up the rocks and things to enjoy the nice view, which you can't get otherwise. Second, I can't no longer use my convenient remote shutter release. I don't know why they couldn't make it compatible. |
