My son is getting better at golfing. While recording a video is cool, I want some pics that show some motion. I slowed the shutter speed to 1/30 to get this shot. But when you do that, the aperture gets so small that the depth of field is so large. To make it look different from any of the iPhone picture, I want the depth of field small. I reduced the sensitivity of the sensor so low to compensate for it. (Sony A7s, FE70-200 F4 G OSS at f/4, 140mm, ISO = 50, 1/30)

Thanks to technologies nowadays. We can take pictures in dark without flash or tripod. We can crank up the ISO and just shoot. (Fuji X-Pro1, Fujinon XF35mmF1.4R, 1/50, f/1.4, ISO = 800)
I took a photo tour in Alaska and our instructor told us not to erase any pictures in camera, not until you upload them on your computer and look at them in the bigger screen. You never know what you would find. This one didn't look great at all in my 3-inch camera display. It's obviously out of focus and blurry. The shutter speed was to slow to freeze my son's movement for the picture to be nice and crisp. But, when I saw this on my computer screen, I liked it. The blur indicates motion and reminds me of my son transitioning to be more active. This picture now is a keeper. It tells the story. (Nikon D800E, Nikkor 28-70 mm at 34 mm, f/2.8, 1/40, ISO = 280, taken in JPEG)
My son who is now 12 wk old learns to be on his belly but can't move forward. He is eying on the milk bottle but he can't really get there. I got down to his eye level and shot this pic focusing on his eyes. I wished I used a smaller aperture and made the milk bottle more visible and in focus, but overall, this pic can still deliver the message. (Fuji X-Pro1, XF35mmF1.4R, 1/55 f/1.4, ISO = 200, Neutral mode, shot in jpeg) My little son is now 8 weeks old. This is his first 4th of July party with fireworks. I got lower and took this shot from the low angle. This is my backyard and he is lit by lights from my house. Exposure is adjusted to -2, cranking up on my ISO to 3200, aperture to f/1.4. I thought was funny that he was not interested in fireworks and didn't even blink when loud fireworks were going off. I thought it would be interesting to shoot when he was facing away from the fireworks, grabbing onto his Mom, and title this, "I'm not even close to being independent" to express some irony. (Fuji X-Pro1, XF35mmf/1.4R, 1/30, f/1.4, ISO 3200, neutral JPEG mode, no flash, handheld)
During my lunch time, I took my camera outside and looked for something to take a picture of. Here is a cage next to this man-made lake at my work's property, and this man in a dress shirt and jeans is looking at the birds. First of all, why there is a bird cage here? What's the purpose? Who is maintaining it? Who is this guy looking at the birds? Clearly, he is not an employee dressing like this. What's so interesting about these birds? I came up with lots of questions...and I thought this would an interesting composition. (Fuji X-Pro1, Fujinon XF35mmF1.4R, 1/2900, f/1.4, ISO = 200, taken in BW, jpeg)
Very colorful picture. There was a long line of kids waiting for the face painting. The face painter gets all the attention in this picture, but I like the expressions of those kids anticipating and waiting for their turn. (Fuji X-Pro1, XF35mmf1.4R, ISO 800, 1/2000 f/1.4)
My Fuji X-Pro1 was just delivered to me today. Here is one of my first shots. At 9:00 PM, DQ is still selling soft cones. I took this from the drive through window. It looks like a "behind the scene" type of photo. Well, so far this camera is so much fun. I will write a review soon, but let me shoot some more pics first. (Fuji X-Pro1, XF35mmf1.4R, 1/320, f/1.4, ISO 1600)
My seat at the A&M game was low enough to take this shot. I thought it was interesting to focus on the players who don't usually get focused. Texas A&M lost again in the 4th quarter. (Nikon D7000, Nikkor 18-200mm at 200mm, 1/640 f/6.3)
A singer of a band was nice enough to pose to my camera. Thanks to my D7000 with my fast 50mm, I was able to focus very quickly and didn't lose this opportunity. Luckily, composition is very good, too. I guess you don't have to be a pro if your equipment is good. All the technologies are making photography idiot-proof, huh? I guess most of it is about being there at right time and composing a picture, we don't have to worry too much about technical aspect of photography as much anymore. (Nikon D7000, Nikkor 50mm, 1/250 f/1.4, no post-processing)
